New Extensions in Percona Distribution for PostgreSQL, Updated Percona Kubernetes Operators: Release Roundup May 10, 2021

It’s release roundup time again here at Percona!

Percona UpdatesOur Release Roundups showcase the latest Percona software updates, tools, and features to help you manage and deploy our software. It offers highlights and critical information, as well as links to the full release notes and direct links to the software or service itself to download.

Today’s post includes those releases and updates that have come out since April 26, 2021, including the set of new extensions now supplied with Percona Distribution for PostgreSQL and point-in-time recovery in Percona Kubernetes Operator for Percona Server for MongoDB.

Percona Distribution for PostgreSQL 13.2

On April 27, 2021, Percona Distribution for PostgreSQL 13.2 was released. It consists of the best and most critical enterprise-level components from the open-sourcecommunity, designed and tested to work together in one single source.This update includes the set of new extensions which are now supplied with Percona Distribution for PostgreSQL: PgBouncer 1.15.0, pgAudit set_user 2.0.0, pgBadger,  and wal2json 2.3. It also includes the updated version of Patroni 2.0.2 – a HA solution for PostgreSQL.

Percona Distribution for PostgreSQL 12.6

Also on April 27, 2021, Percona Distribution for PostgreSQL 12.6 was released. It includes the same new extensions and additions as 13.2.

Percona Server for MongoDB 4.0.24-19

Percona Server for MongoDB 4.0.24-19 was released on May 3, 2021. It is an enhanced, open source, and highly scalable database that is a fully compatible, drop-in replacement for MongoDB 4.0.24 Community Edition, supporting MongoDB 4.0.24 protocols and drivers.

Percona Kubernetes Operator for Percona Server for MongoDB

On May 6, 2021, Percona Kubernetes Operator for Percona Server for MongoDB was released. It automates the creation, alteration, or deletion of members in your Percona Server for MongoDB environment.  There are many new features, improvements, and bug fixes in this release, but some highlights include the support for Point-in-time recovery and the ability to perform a major version upgrade for MongoDB (for example, upgrade 4.2 version to 4.4) with no manual steps.

Percona Kubernetes Operator for Percona XtraDB Cluster 1.8.0

On Monday, April 26, 2021, we released Percona Kubernetes Operator for Percona XtraDB Cluster 1.8.0. Highlights in this release include the possibility to use the kubectl scale command to scale Percona XtraDB Cluster horizontally (add or remove Replica Set instances), as well as you can also use Horizontal Pod Autoscaler which will scale your database cluster based on various metrics, such as CPU utilization. There is now support for custom sidecar containers. This feature can be useful to run debugging tools or some specific monitoring solutions, etc.

Percona Toolkit 3.3.1

Percona Toolkit 3.3.1 was released on April 30, 2021. It is a collection of advanced open source command-line tools, developed and used by the Percona technical staff, that are engineered to perform a variety of MySQL and MongoDB server and system tasks that are too difficult or complex to perform manually. In this release, there are several bug fixes of note, which can read about in the release notes.
